Barron’s reported last week that Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac are likely to remain in conservatorship, according to Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte. But is this correct?
Last week the Congressional Budget Office released a report looking at the financial impact of releasing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from the government conservatorship. The way that CBO looks at the operations of the GSEs is more than a little surreal. But the decision to release the GSEs may have nothing to do with CBO.
